No, not sausages. Or golf courses. Useful web links with more annotation than the software’s “blogroll” widget supports. Useful, on-topic suggestions left in comments may be incorporated with attribution, if desired, and the comment deleted. (Others will just be deleted.)
GIS
- Online GIS Training Course: The goal of this project is to educate professionals with limited GIS experience to design, implement and manage their own GIS. This course is divided into two sections: Theoretical Concepts in GIS and Practical Applications and Training.
- SharpGIS: Some useful information, even if he belongs to the Borg.
- GeoData.gov: US government GIS clearinghouse
- National Atlas: Includes data for “mapping professionals”. Amateurs, too, I guess. :)
- Standford.edu: Many links to GIS data sites
- Quantum GIS:Qgis is growing into quite a respectable program.
- shptosvg: My own rough-hewn shapefile-to-SVG utility
Weather
- St. Louis County Skywarn: Good severe weather information and a good set of links.
Sound
- ccMixter: A community music site featuring remixes licensed under Creative Commons where you can listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in whatever way you want.
- The Freesound Project: A collaborative database of Creative Commons licensed sounds. Freesound focuses only on sound, not songs.
- DanoSongs.com: Dano’s original pop, rock, acoustic and techno songs. He puts his own music up as free MP3 music downloads that are legal, safe and virus-free to listen, burn, stream, podcast or use in your personal or commercial multimedia projects.
